Why Are There No Homes for Sale RIght Now? Interest rates are high. That’s the first factor. The second half of 2022 has shown higher rates are simply causing people to stay put and not move. It’s mostly flat-lined prices in our area, further causing people to not be as motivated to sell. This is causing an even further inventory shortage. Lower inventory has equaled out the higher rates and caused those prices to just balance out. Without much incentive to move, many are choosing not to. Further continuing the cycle of people not putting their home for sale right now. Second factor is seasonality. It’s typical for the winter months to be slower in our area for new listings. It’s the holidays, it may be the first time people are celebrating in years, and many just want to enjoy those moments they haven’t had over the past few years. Every year around this time, it would always be a slower period in terms of new listings and activity due to the holidays. Without the massive financial benefit of selling for top dollar with multiple offers way over asking around any more, people are thinking it’s best to wait until after the holidays, the spring or not even sell at all.
